After popping to IKEA today to stock up on a few more frames and some glasses for tonight (lots of people drinking). It was the perfect opportunity to buy some Veggieballs, they are so versatile and brilliant as a go to when you're not sure what to have for lunch/dinner.
After a little tidy of the house and before people arrive, here is my bitesize IKEA Veggieball review...
Availability of Product:
Well, I guess this seems pretty obvious. You need to be near an IKEA to be able to buy them. Luckily for me, there is one just 10 minutes from my house and I've always been relatively close to one.
Obviously as a furniture store they don't deliver from online the Frozen Veggieballs as they would be well and truly mushy by the time they arrived so you do need to invest in making a trip. Just try to get in and out without anything else, I dare you!
7/10 - really depends on where you live
Easiness of Cooking:
These Veggieballs are super easy to cook, it's just a couple of minutes in the microwave or 10 minutes in the oven. I prefer the microwave for ease and also I find they stay a little more squishy when cooked that way. I find oven cooking can dry them out, which would work a bit more for dinner but when using them on a bit of crisp bread, as part of a salad or in a wrap I prefer more moisture!
9/10
Quality of Taste: For IKEA to create a Gluten Free Vegan alternative to the Meatball is brilliant. When I heard they were coming out I was super excited. I found it amazing that they realised not everybody loves their Meatball option and to think up an alternative that is not only Vegetarian, but also Vegan really helps a lot of people. I'm sure it has helped convert a lot of Vegans to not just have chips when shopping!
The taste of them is brilliant, packed full of Veggie flavours in a bitesize piece. As I said before, I prefer it cooked in the microwave for the moist version though they are just as good, if a little dry, cooked in the oven.
My favourite ways to eat them is either on Crisp Bread, in a Wrap or as part of a Salad. I have however used them as a main meal before such as with Pasta or with some Potatoes and Gravy, they are a great addition to any meal. They give you a kick of Veggie flavour with pieces of my favourite Vegetable, Peas, showing up in force.
I wouldn't rely on them for anything truly exciting or in show off meal, however for everyday dinners or a quick meal in the main place itself, IKEA, it is a brilliant option.
8/10
Better make myself a little more presentable now, people are due any minute! Sorry for the bitesize, I'll be doing a restaurant review tomorrow after another dinner at Pho! Happy Veganuary Day 20!
