Grilled Cheese! AND a Burger!

Now, I don't want to preach to people about grilled cheese and burgers but I was totally blown away by the lunch I had today and the lunch (and dinner) I had yesterday so I had to talk about it!

As you know from yesterdays blog I found some absolute steals in Asda, one of those things was an Amy's Kitchen Manhattan Veggie Burger. It is rare to find a burger patty that is totally Gluten Free Vegan so when I found it I had to buy it as it looked just like a Quorn patty! I also found some Asda's own Free From Brown Rolls which are new to their range and I picked up some Violife Cheese Slices as well. Perfect combination to make a Becki Friendly burger, something I haven't been able to have in a very long time!

I couldn't wait to have it so I rushed home and put the oven on straight away, surprisingly the burger only takes 10 minutes to cook in the oven or a crazy 1 minute in the microwave! Incredible really for something frozen, I was tempted to just put it in the microwave but I wanted the winning combination of Burger and Chips so I waited patiently for 20 minutes for both to be ready.

In that time, I practically danced around the kitchen, slowly cutting the roll and buttering it. I unpacked the Violife and spread some Heinz BBQ sauce on, pacing around the kitchen and dancing around the house singing burger time. My parents were a little bewildered but you can't hinge that kind of excitement when you haven't had one for years!

The time came, I built the burger up to create a Gluten Free Vegan BBQ Cheese Burger and I was ecstatic! I took my first bite and it was absolute heaven! It took me back to the days of eating a Cheese Burger from McDonald's, though it was even better as it was gloriously melting in my mouth and packed full of vegetable flavour with the fluffy roll, wilting cheese and BBQ sauce complimenting it.

I enjoyed it so much, I had it again for dinner, without the chips this time and it was just as amazing. I am thinking about it now and wanting to have another one, I think I have succumbed to the joy of Gluten Free Vegan junk food totally and utterly.

Then today, I decided to experience the simple joy of a grilled cheese sandwich. Now one of the downsides of Schar Gluten Free Vegan bread is the size of it, in order to have a reasonable sandwich I have to have 4 slices.

So I buttered both sides of each slice of bread with Flora Vegan spread, then put grated Violife Mozzarella cheese in both sandwiches. Then I put it on the hob and flipped it halfway, I don't have a toaster so it's the only way for me to have a proper bit of toast or melted cheese toastie. I think this is how Americans make grilled cheese anyway so I'm just being multicultural!

I took them off the hob and broke it in half to see the classic string of the cheese between the bread. Oh My! The string of melted cheese is a beautiful thing, especially when it is vegan so it won't hurt anyone or anything! The melt of the cheese and the crunchy buttery taste of the bread was incredible.

It was a joyous lunch, I'm very happy that I chose to make it as it was so delicious, it was maybe a little on the junk food side of the scale but I don't care! I've got to have a little bit of fun every now and then, being a Gluten Free Vegan makes my diet pretty much health on a stick anyway so I'm happy to indulge! I implore all of you to try these two incredible meals, I've loved my couple of days of "junk food" and of course I will continue every now and then! (With Crohn's I can't push the boat out too much!) That's if my willpower is strong enough to stop me from eating those last two burgers in my freezer by the end of tomorrow...
