Las Iguanas is a restaurant taking inspiration from a mixture of Mexican, Brazilian and South American cuisine. The food all is very fresh and full of flavour in every bite.
Staff:
I have only been to two Las Iguanas restaurants but both times the staff have been very helpful and on the ball as soon as I mentioned my allergies. Most recently I was in the Newcastle branch of the chain, I mentioned my allergies when I entered and requested the Gluten free menu and the allergen book. The waitress took a little time to come back, so by the time she had, I had already logged online and downloaded their allergen menu to double check my meal was free of my allergens. She apologised for the delay, it was their policy to stay with the guest when looking at the allergen folder so was ensuring she could do so, however she was perfectly happy that I had checked online.
When the meal came, she repeated that the meal was gluten free and vegan which completely assured me my meal was going to be perfect and made specifically for my needs.
8/10 - only due to delay and allergen folder restrictions
Food:
The whole menu is labelled to show Vegetarian options, Gluten Free options etc, there is also a separate Vegetarian menu and Gluten Free menu which is really helpful rather than having to scour through the full and complete menu.
There are so many options for me without asking for adaptations but there are also even more options which are Gluten free and Vegan when you ask for them to be. For a chain restaurant this is one of the best for me, they take allergens seriously and there is a great deal on the menu.
I had the Quinoa Ensalada when I last went, it is packed full of flavour, smashed avocado base with quinoa, sweetcorn and a variety of other veg on top. The only downside I would have is that the texture is all very much the same, so it can be quite repetitive by the time you get towards the end.
8/10 - need to try more items on the menu, may then adapt
Allergies/Intolerances:
The whole menu lends to allergies extremely well, the website has their full Allergen guide on top of the menu which means you can have a look before you get to the restaurant. One of my pet hates is going somewhere without being prepared and then awkwardly sitting there with the waiter/waitress going through my options while the other guests wait.
The restaurant staff really carefully make sure everything is made to your specifications and when they bring out the food they repeat what you intolerance was which really makes you feel secure.
